The Confluence – where the news comes together is 90.5 WESA’s weekly news program.

Each week reporters, editors and bloggers join veteran journalist, and host, Kevin Gavin. They’ll go behind the headlines taking an in-depth look at the stories important to the Pittsburgh region.

This week's topics include a discussion about the water issues that required roughly 100,000 city residents to boil their tap water before drinking. We'll get the details on an investigation into mold on linens supplied to UPMC. Also, our Harrisburg reporters will discuss the consolidation of state health agencies and preview Gov. Tom Wolf's state budget address.

Pittsburgh Water

Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority issued a precautionary boil and flush advisory for more than two dozen Pittsburgh neighborhoods in the central and eastern parts of the city. This has some looking again at the city’s water quality and safety. We’ll have an update on Pittsburgh’s water issues with WESA reporter Liz Reid and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reporter Natasha Lindstrom.

UPMC Mold Outbreak

Linens that were supplied to UPMC from a DuBois laundry facility have been found to be the mold source that caused fatal fungal infections according to a hospital environmental expert. The expert spoke with Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reporter Ben Schmitt who broke the story. Schmitt and Pittsburgh Post- Gazette reporter Sean Hamill join us with the latest updates on the story.

Harrisburg Happenings

This week, Governor Wolf announced the consolidation of the state’s health agencies. We’ll discuss what this means for the commonwealth and other Capitol happenings with WESA Harrisburg bureau chief Katie Meyer and PennLive Opinion Page Editor John Micek.
